Distinction Between Public School BoD and Private School BoD
It’s a common misunderstanding that private school boards operate in the same way as public school boards. Because public school boards are elected by the public, the board meetings are public. Apogee is governed by a private school board that is appointed and voted in by a majority of the board members and are not expected to be public. The Apogee board is governed by laws pertaining to 501(c)(3) organizations and works within its bylaws. At its discretion, the board may invite a guest to be heard during a portion of a board meeting.
Board Responsibility & Structure
The Apogee BoD operates as standard nonprofit board. The board is mainly responsible for establishing policy, fiscal oversight, tuition rate, and the wellbeing of the corporation. Building level operations are the responsibility of school administration under the direction of the Head of School. All staff report to the Head of School or a supervisor who reports to the Head of School. The Head of School exclusively reports to the board.
The Head of School attends board meetings at the request of the board, but is not a voting member.
